Community Engagement Statement

Community engagement matters to me because it’s where real change takes root. The work we do at The Haven of Grace is not transactional, it’s transformational. And transformation requires partnership, trust, and shared responsibility.

When the community steps in with us, it widens the circle of support around our mothers and their children. It brings new perspectives, new resources, and a deeper sense of belonging for families who have too often been isolated or overlooked. Community engagement is also a way of honoring the dignity and potential of the women we serve. It tells them, “You are seen, and this community believes in your future.”

For me, as a Black woman leading in spaces that weren’t designed for us, community engagement is not just important, it’s essential. It’s how we build power, create opportunity, and interrupt generational poverty in a way that lasts. We are better, stronger, and more impactful when the community is not on the sidelines but actively walking alongside us.

That’s why it matters. And that’s why I champion it every single day.
