Erica L. Bumpers, PhD, is a visionary educator, field researcher, and strategic innovator with over two decades of experience transforming educational systems and advancing equity in marginalized communities. As the Research Development Associate with the Confluence Collaborative at WashU, she leads cutting-edge research initiatives that bridge data, policy, and practice to improve life outcomes for youth, particularly in high-poverty contexts.
With a career rooted in community engagement and academic excellence, Dr. Bumpers has held leadership roles across higher education, K–12 systems, and nonprofit organizations. Her expertise includes developing culturally responsive teaching frameworks, evaluating life coaching programs, and implementing systemic solutions that address the root causes of educational disparities.
A prolific scholar and thought leader, Dr. Bumpers has presented nationally on topics ranging from equity in education to behavioral health supports for Black youth. She has also served as a peer reviewer for several U.S. Department of Education grant programs and contributed to numerous academic publications.
Dr. Bumpers holds a PhD in Education Administration with an emphasis in K-12 leadership from Illinois State University, a Master of Arts in Education Administration from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with a concentration in English from Harris-Stowe State University. She remains a passionate advocate for liberatory education, inclusive leadership, and community-centered research that drives meaningful change.
