Supervision that only checks tasks and evaluates performance leaves students without the space to think critically, examine their own reactions, or grow into their professional identity. This workshop equips instructors to use reflective supervision to build students’ self-awareness, clinical reasoning, and ethical decision-making, while staying attuned to the impact of stress and trauma on both students and supervisors.

This Community of Learning is a collaborative professional learning initiative designed to strengthen field education through structured professional development, reflective supervision, and continuous quality improvement. This initiative supports practicum instructors across participating universities and community organizations while fostering stronger partnerships between academic institutions and community-based practice settings.

This third workshop will focus on building instructors’ capacity for reflective supervision: coaching versus directing, giving effective feedback, and supporting students’ professional identity and ethical reasoning, with attention to trauma-informed practice.

Facilitated by Ebony Hutchinson, MSW, LCSW

Ebony Hutchinson, MSW, LCSW, RPT, is a licensed clinical social worker, Registered Play Therapist, educator, and Founder and Executive Director of The Community Reach. She specializes in trauma-informed, culturally responsive care with children and families and provides training and clinical supervision to social work students and professionals.
